Kolar: Members of the Vidyarthi Janata Dal staged a dharna in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Public Instruction here on Friday seeking action against the authorities of Morarji Desai Residential School at Madanahalli in Kolar taluk for allegedly failing to ensure the safety of students. According to sources, two ninth-standard students of the government school are missing N. Nagendra, since September last year, and Jagadish, since the third week of January. The protestors alleged that the school authorities failed to report the matter to the police and did not make efforts to trace the boys. Sources said that when Nagendra's father, Narayanappa of Bandharlahalli village in Bangarpet taluk, went to the school on September 21 last year, the school authorities reportedly told him that the boy was missing for two days. After a three-month search, Mr. Narayanappa lodged a complaint with the Kolar Rural police. He has demanded action against the Principal. Sources said Jagadish's father, Nagaraju of Thumutagere village in Bangarpet taluk, could not meet his son on a visit to the school in January. The authorities reportedly told him that the boy had not returned to the hostel after attending classes on January 18. Mr. Nagaraju has filed a complaint with the police. The police, who have brought out a "missing person notice" with photographs of the boys, have sought the assistance of the public to trace them.
