Schoolgirl delivers baby

VIZIANAGARAM: Bonela Sarada, a ninth class student of Social Welfare Residential School at Venugopalapuram in Nellimarla mandal delivered a baby girl at Gosha Hospital here around 10.30 p.m. on Thursday. According to the statement issued by her before Joint Collector M. Jaganmohan on Friday, she developed intimacy with her uncle's son R. Sanyasi of Krishnapuram, her native village. The Joint Collector warned the Principal of stringent action if such incidents recurred in future. - Correspondent

Teenager drowned

KADAPA: Seventeen-year-old Shaik Barkath was drowned in a marshy water pool in Mandavya river in Rayachoti on Friday. Six friends of the victim managed to swim to safety and informed boy's father Shaik Abdul Salam. - Staff Reporter

120 sheep die in fire

VIZIANAGARAM: In all, 120 sheep perished when 25 thatched shelters caught fire at Gollapeta in Srugavarapukota panchayat on Friday afternoon. The cause of fire was not known. - Correspondent

`Go to villages' drive

KADAPA: `Chalo gaon ki ore' (Go to villages) campaign will be launched on March 5 to enlighten rural women on welfare schemes being implemented by the Government, Andhra Pradesh Mahila Commission Director Moole Saraswathi Devi said here on Friday. The campaign was being undertaken jointly by National Commission for Women and A.P. Red sanders seized

Nellore: Forest officials of Venkatagiri range seized red sanders worth Rs. 3.50 lakhs. At Paravolu of Venkatagiri, they seized a van, which was allegedly being used to transport red sanders. The vehicle contained 25 logs, valued at Rs. 2.50 lakhs. They also seized red sanders worth Rs. 1 lakh from Velugonda forest of Dakkili mandal. - Staff Reporter

Cash stolen from hundi

KURNOOL: An unidentified gang burgled Sri Kanakadurgamma temple by stealing the cash deposited in the hundi at Budhawarpet on Thursday night. According to reports, the gang broke open the hundi and took away the proceeds.
