PANAJI: The Goa Government is examining a proposal from a Malaysian company, which has offered to set up a solid waste disposal plant with an investment of Rs. 450 crores on a buy-back guarantee for 30 years from the State for electricity generated from it. Deputy Chief Minister Wilfred de Souza said that the company wanted a land on 30-year lease for the project to be set up on build own operate and transfer (BOOT) basis to convert the solid waste into energy. He said the company has set up such plants in Germany and Switzerland. "They will collect garbage, process it and convert it into energy, which they are willing to sell at Rs. 2.34 a unit. Since this will be cheap power, we are studying the proposal," he said. The proposed plant will have a capacity to process 400 tonnes of solid waste. a day, the Deputy Chief Minister added
