Distribution of I-cards to begin soon: Collector

    Dharmapuri: Distribution of Electors' Photo Identity Card will commence shortly in all the Assembly constituencies in Dharmapuri district.A total of 6,04,343 voters (56 per cent) in Dharmapuri district have the cards, said the Collector, M. Chandrasekaran, here on Friday.

    To begin with, eight Designated Photographic Location (DPL) would be set up in each Assembly constituency to take photographs of voters. The Election Commission of India had identified a private agency in Bangalore to take photographs of voters in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts.

    The State had been divided into 14 regions and 10 agencies had been identified for this purpose, he said.

    Mr. Chandrasekaran said a notification would be issued shortly based on which applications would be given to all eligible voters in Dharmapuri district.

    All eligible voters and those whose names were left out in the final electoral roll could submit applications and report on the designated days for taking photographs. The final electoral roll would be released on February 27.

    Duplicate card

    Similarly, voters who had lost their identity cards can remit a sum of Rs. 15 and get a duplicate identity card at the concerned taluk headquarters (link centres) in the district.

    Pamphlets and banners would also be displayed at the Designated Photographic Location to provide information to the public. The designated days for photographing voters would be announced at a later date.

    A total of 1,175 polling stations would be set up in Dharmapuri district, including 111 auxiliary polling stations. The total number of voters in the Assembly constituencies in Dharmapuri district was 10,12,177, including 5,10,707 female voters.

    Total voters

    The total number of voters after the commencement of verification work with January 1, 2006 as the qualifying date was 9,88,978. Till date, 6,768 voters had been included and another 29,957 voters deleted during the verification process.

    A total of 10,484 applications had been received from the public for inclusion of names, 38 for deletion, 264 for correction and 146 applications for part-to-part changes.

    Applications for inclusion, deletion, correction and part-to-part changes would be received till February 12.
