Espanyol beats Deportivo
MADRID:
Walter Pandiani's last-minute goal earned Espanyol a 2-1 victory over Deportivo La Coruna in a Copa del Rey first-leg semifinal on Thursday.
Pandiani scored after Luis Garcia's shot rebounded off teammate Ferran Corominas to give Espanyol a slight advantage to take into the second-leg at Deportivo's Riazor stadium on a still undetermined date.
Ruben Castro gave Deportivo the lead with a fifth-minute penalty, with Garcia equalising with a penalty of his own in the 56th.
Deportivo hurt itself with the ejection of Fabricio Coloccini, who was sent off in the 59th minute.
In the other semifinal on Wednesday, Zaragoza beat Real Madrid 6-1 at La Romareda Stadium courtesy of four goals by Diego Milito and two from Ewerthon.The final is set for April 12 at a venue yet to be decided. AP
