Buildings on one side of the road left untouched Commissioner for succumbing to the pressures of the local MLA and the building owners Commissioner assures protesters of stopping construction of the wall and also to take up widening on the other side also
Kakinada: The action of the city planning authorities in demolishing the age-old PR College compound wall under the pretext of road widening, without the knowledge of the college authorities and taking up construction of a wall encroaching 20 sq yards along the road sparked off loud protests on Friday from old students and political leaders alike. The widening of the road on only one side, affecting the college grounds, leaving buildings on the other side, belonging to affluent sections, untouched compounded their feelings.
An all-party delegation consisting of Dadala Subbarao, CPI(M) district secretary, Jyothula Srikrishna Achyutharamaiah, city BJP president, Nandamuri Vinod, city BJP vice-president, Fruity Kumar, TDP whip in the Corporation, and Nookala Radha and A.V. Naidu, senior Congress leaders gheraoed Corporation Commissioner K. Subrahmanyam at his chamber.
The issue, however, subsided with the Commissioner assuring them of stopping the construction of controversial wall and taking up road widening on the other side also.
