`Pushkara LI scheme is temporary'

800 cusecs of water to be given for farmers through the scheme from kharif season

Tuni (East Godavai): Irrigation Secretary Satish Chandra has clarified that Pushkara Lift Irrigation project is only temporary and it will be useful for the farmers just before the construction of Polavaram major irrigation project. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Satish Chandra, who is the nodal officer for East Godavari district on implementation of Indiramma pathakam, said that his department would give 800 cusecs of water through Pushkara scheme from the coming kharif season to the farmers up to Jaggampeta are and it would be extended to Tuni in due course.

Answering to a question, Mr. Satish Chandra said that there should be no doubts about the Polavaram project as it had already got environment and site clearances from the Union Government and the State Government.

He said Ministry of Tribal Welfare and Forest Department had to give clearance for the project which was expected in a few months. He hoped that the project would be completed in the next four or five years with Rs.14,000 crores. Minister for Roads and Buildings J. Ramamohana Rao, Collector Praveen Prakash, Congress leader Rajah Ashok Babu and others participated in the press conference.
