JAIPUR: The chief whip of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Maharashtra Assembly, Raj K. Purohit, has demanded that the Bandra Terminal in Mumbai be named after the legendary Mewar ruler Maharana Pratap. Naming the Bandra Terminal, built to reduce the traffic pressure on Mumbai Central, as "Maharana Pratap Terminal" would be not only paying tribute to the memory of the hero of the battle of Haldi Ghati but also acknowledging the contributions of Rajasthanis in Mumbai, he said. In a letter to Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, Mr. Purohit said the Bandra Terminal was associated with the people of Rajasthan. Most of the westbound trains heading for Rajasthan like the Aravalli Express, Ranakpur Express, Sawai Madhopur Express and Surya Nagari Express leave from the Bandra Terminal. The local Rajasthanis living in Mumbai and elsewhere in Maharashtra identify themselves with the Bandra Terminal, he pointed out.
