KARIMNAGAR: In order to encourage farmers cultivating integrated dry (ID) crops, the Markfed had embarked upon an ambitious task of procuring red gram directly from them by opening procurement centres at agricultural market committees in the State. Markfed Chairman Ponnam Prabhakar had formally launched the procurement at the Karimnagar agricultural marketyard on Friday. The Government had announced a minimum support price of Rs. 1,400 per quintal, besides announcing an incentive price of Rs. 100 per quintal. Procurement was also simultaneously taken up in Jagtial, Sircilla and Husnabad marketyards. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prabhakar said that they had decided to procure red gram from about 150 AMCs in the State. Depending upon the demand they would increase the number in order to encourage the farmers. He said Rs. 100 per quintal incentive was being provided to encourage farmers to change the cropping patterns and go in for ID crops for better profits with less consumption of water. Karimnagar Market Committee Chairman Y Sunil Rao called upon the farmers to utilise the opportunity and earn more profits. Markfed District Manager Ratnakar, DCMS Business Manager Dayakar and others were also present.
