Devotees throng Vadamadurai

To witness `mahasamprokshanam' of Sri Soundararaja Perumal Temple



CONGRETATION: Thousands of devotees witnessing mahasamprokshanam being performed to Sri Soundararaja Perumal Temple at Vadamadurai near Dindigul on Friday.

DINDIGUL: Thousands of devotees witnessed `mahasamprokshanam' of Sri Soundararaja Perumal Temple at Vadamadurai near here on Friday.

After special yahams, poojas, vedha parayanam that took place for the past six days, a team of Battacharyars led by head priest T. Soundararaja Iyengar, commenced `mahasamprokshana thirupani' with `prana prathishta homam' and `mandala aradhana.'

Later, `maha samprokshanam' was performed to Sri Chakrathazhvar, Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar, Sri Andal, Sri Anjaneyar and Sri Vishwaksenar sannadhis. Meanwhile, chief battachariyar sprinkled holy water on the kalasams of Rajagopuram and `vimanam' of main temple at an auspicious time.

Thousands of devotees from neighbouring villages thronged the temple since morning to witness the festival.

Temple administration with liberal contributions from public and donors, had renovated `deepasthambam,' `Sorga Vasal,' `Thirumadapalli' and `dwajasthambam' and constructed exclusive `sannidhanams' for Sri Chakrathazhvar, Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar, Sri Andal, Sri Anjaneyar and Sri Vishwaksenar.

The temple has three storey rajagopuram and separate sannadhis for Perumal and Thayaar. Sri Soundaraja Perumal has been blessing devotees with goddesses Sri Devi and Boodhevi. Six kaala poojas have been performed as per Thenkalai sampradayam.

The temple is open between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Adi festival is the main festival.

Thirukalyanam, car procession and pearl palanquin procession would be held in the month of Adi.

Chitra Pournami, Panguni festival, Navarathiri and Karthigai deepam are other important festivals.

After a gap of 53 years, Mahasamprokshanam was performed to the temple.
