Japanese delegation in Delhi

NEW DELHI : A Japanese delegation led by the Governor of Fukuoka Prefectural Government of Japan, Wataru Aso, and the Speaker of Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly, Fujita Yozo, visited the Delhi Assembly on Friday.

The 30-member delegation was accorded a warm welcome by the Speaker, Chaudhary Prem Singh. "In our country, Japan is respected and regarded as one of the fastest developing economies of the world. India is one of the biggest markets in the world as far as electronics and computer appliances are concerned. Indians mostly prefer electronic items manufactured by Japan," he told the visitors.

Mr. Aso said India had made tremendous progress in the field of information technology. "Environment protection is the one area in which Japan would like to extend its full cooperation to boost modern techniques and technology."

Water supply to be hit

NEW DELHI: Due to emergency work, water supply will be available at low pressure on Monday and Tuesday at Madhuban, Nirman Vihar, Maharani Bagh, Friends Colony, Nizamuddin railway station, Nizamuddin, Sarai Kale Khan, Sidhartha Enclave, Chittaranjan Park, Greater Kailash, Kailash Colony, East of Kailash, Kalkaji, Okhla Village, Asian Games Village, South Extension Part-I and Part II and All-India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Due to annual flushing of booster pumping station, water supply will be available at low pressure on Monday in LIG Madipur area; 256 MIG Hari Nagar area and Khanna Market area. Water supply will also be at low pressure on Tuesday at GH-14 Paschim Vihar; B-4A Block Janakpuri area; 356 SFS Madipur and 112 LIG Hari Nagar area. Water tankers will be available on phone: No. 29238543 (Greater Kailash), 28525659 (Janakpuri) and 25193140 (Shivaji Enclave).

`Bhoomi pujan'

NEW DELHI: Batra Hospital and Medical Research Centre president A.L. Batra performed `bhoomi poojan' for installation of a 500 kilolitre per day sewage treatment and recycling plant at the hospital on Wednesday. The plant will be completed in five months and will provide 200 kilolitres per day of pure reverse osmosis water to be used for laundry, air-conditioning and boilers and another 300 kilolitres per day of treated water for gardening etc.

Students excel

NEW DELHI: Students of the Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies bagged 18 prizes in various competitive events at the annual festival "Anugoonj 2006" at Kashmere Gate here this past week.

Organised by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, the festival saw students from the Institute winning first position in Hindi debate, mono acting, Indian group song, street play, folk dance, instrumental solo and cartooning.
