MYSORE: A total of 100 typhoid cases have been reported in the city in the past few days. Of them, 21 are from Ashokapuram and surrounding areas, reckoned to be endemic to typhoid. The Mysore City Corporation has taken steps to prevent the disease from spreading further.
Health camps
Health camps were organised at Dharam Singh Colony, Devaraj Urs Colony and Kanakagiri on Friday. Deputy Health Officer of the corporation Cheluve Gowda said 23 patients have been examined. Of them, 10 have fever and symptoms of typhoid. The test report will be ready on Saturday, he said.
New cases
Meanwhile, 10 new cases of fever and typhoid were reported in the city on Friday. Two cases at the JSS Hospital proved to be positive for typhoid. Four cases were reported at Annapoorna Nursing Home and four at Sitaranga Hospital. Dr. Cheluve Gowda said there have been sporadic cases of typhoid in the city. But it is not an epidemic as being made out. The medical camps will continue and a team of four doctors and five paramedical staff is monitoring the situation. Patients have been given free medicines, he added. He attributed the outbreak of typhoid to food contamination. The corporation had collected 61 water samples of which 59 were normal, while two had mild e-coli contamination, he said. Vani Vilas Water Works has been directed to take up super-chlorification, he said.
