CHENNAI:
There are predictions that India will race with China to emerge as the super economic power by 2050. But success hinges on India revamping its education system.
The observation was made by experts at the World Economic Forum and Harvard Business School, said N. Ramasubramanyan, honorary president and correspondent of Shri Natesan Vidyasala Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Tambaram.
In his lecture, `Today's Education in India,' he said a survey by the Ministry of Human Resources and an independent organisation said that out of 25.3 crore children below 14, 8.7 crore never make it to school.
The dropout rate is an alarming 33 per cent, while 30 per cent of teachers never go to school. The study also revealed that people started losing faith in government schools.
"For real growth of our country, quality education is the foundation," he said.
