Japanese industrialists on `fact-finding' visit

"Chennai will be focus of India's automotive sector"

CHENNAI: A team of 55 Japanese industrialists were in the city on Friday scouting for investment opportunities in small and medium scale enterprises. Their visit will conclude on Saturday.

The Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised an interaction programme for the visiting team with heads of automotive, electrical and electronic and IT and ITES industries in Tamil Nadu. The delegation visited SRM Deemed University, Mahindra City and Visteon.

On Saturday, they will visit Saint-Gobain and India Japan Lighting.

Ito Noritada, president of Taiyo Corporation and head of the Chennai delegation, said the city was poised to become the focus of the automotive sector in India.

Ashok Chawla, chief interpreter with the Jetro Mission, said that after the "fact-finding" visit, industrialists would communicate with their Indian counterparts.

Industries Director (Guidance) M. Velmurugan made a presentation on Tamil Nadu as an ideal destination for investment.

Yoshiaki Kodaki, Consul General of Japan in Chennai, participated.
