KOPPURAVURU (Guntur dt.) Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Friday accused the Telugu Desam Party of discriminating against some sections of people in villages while implementing welfare and development schemes. At a public meeting here after attending Indiramma grama sabha, he said that the programme was launched to provide eight basic amenities comprehensively to entire population of the village within a year. "The previous regime used to sanction fixed number of widow and old-age pensions and only when one of the beneficiaries died those in the waiting list were given, but we propose to give everyone," he observed. While the TDP had constructed 12 lakh houses in five years, the present Government completed as many in 20 months, but there was need to construct 27 lakh units more, he said. Dr. Reddy promised houses for all within the next three years. "Had the TDP come to power, it would not have constructed the Pulichintala project," he said. The Government would ensure water to the tail-end areas of the Nagarjuna Sagar Project by modernising the canal system. It was in touch with the World Bank to fund Rs.3,000 crores. He called upon people to apply for house sites, allocation of houses, pensions and drinking water facilities so that a list of beneficiaries could be published in the village to transparently determine the genuine beneficiaries. The Government proposed to provide entire infrastructure needed for education/running of Anganwadis, basic health care, individual lavatories, and proper drainage facility.
Grama sabha
Earlier, at the grama sabha he received a host of requests for widow pensions and allotment of house/house sites. Some people said the affluent had encroached upon the panchayat lands, which should be distributed to 382 families without permanent shelter. The other major request was implementing a drinking water scheme and lift irrigation project from Nambur village. Minister for Cooperation Kanna Lakshmi Narayana was among those who were present.
