KOCHI: The Cusat Syndicate on Friday appointed a three-member committee to look into the circumstances in which Joseph John, a student of the School of Industrial Fisheries, drowned while collecting fish for the recently concluded India International Aqua show. The Syndicate has asked a committee comprising Lopus Mathew, K.T. Damodaran and R.S. Sasikumar to submit report in this connection in 10 days. The meeting also directed B. Madhusoodana Kurup to proceed on leave till the committee submits its report. It also decided to end the practice of research scholars taking classes for the students of the school and end the service of Joyce John, guest lecturer. The examination committee of the Syndicate will look into the allegations of harassment in the name of internal assessment. The Syndicate decided to institute a scholarship in memory of Joseph John. A committee headed by the Pro-Vice Chancellor will be appointed to look into various aspects of internal assessment. The meeting decided to suspend the students who barged into the room of the Vice-Chancellor on Friday.
