Woman allegedly commits suicide

NEW DELHI: A newly-married woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at Hari Nagar in West Delhi on Friday. A suicide note found on the spot allegedly revealed that the victim, Monica, had decided to take her life as she was fed up with it. However, the police are conducting further investigations.

The incident came to light when the victim, Monica was found hanging from a fan at 4 p.m. Monica who was 25 years old, had only recently married Ajay, who is employed as a salesman in a company.

The suicide note found on the spot, purportedly written by Monica, revealed that she was fed up with her life and had decided to end it. She also allegedly wrote that her family loved her very much and so did her in-laws and her husband. But he could not spend much time with her as he had to take care of his job. The police have informed the Area Sub-Divisional Magistrate and investigations are going on.

Held for assaulting doctor

NEW DELHI: One person was arrested by the New Delhi police on charges of assaulting a doctor at Kalawati Saran Hospital in New Delhi on Friday. According to the police, Naim, a resident of Hauz Rani in Central Delhi, had come to Kalawati Saran Hospital with his seven-day-old child for a check-up this morning. He happened to enter a room where some patients were being treated. A senior resident doctor, Manish Kumar, told him that standing in that particular room would expose the child to infections. However, Naim did not pay heed to it.

An argument ensued between the two and Naim allegedly assaulted Dr. Manish and the guards. Subsequently, the police were informed who arrested Naim on charges of obstructing a government servant in discharge of duty.

Five held for auto thefts

NEW DELHI: Two alleged auto-lifters and three receivers of stolen property were arrested at Dwarka in South-West Delhi on Thursday. The police claim to have recovered seven two-wheelers at their instance.

According to the police, Mohammad Azad and Mahabir Singh were arrested when they were riding a stolen scooter. At their instance, police arrested Mohammad Mustafa, Salman and Mahender Singh Negi, who allegedly bought stolen vehicles from the accused.

Man arrested

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old man was arrested by the South-West Delhi on Thursday for allegedly selling soft drinks after tampering with their dates of manufacture.

The Vigilance Branch recently tipped off the police that Vinod Gupta, a resident of Safdarjung Enclave had been selling soft drinks whose recommended time limit for consumption had expired. Subsequently, a decoy customer was sent to strike a deal. Soon after it was confirmed that the bottle the decoy had bought bore a forged data of manufacturing, the police arrested Vinod.

Protests continue

NEW DELHI: The Muslim Democratic Forum (MDF) staged a demonstration here on Friday to protest against the controversial cartoon strip of Prophet Hazrat Mohammad published by a Danish newspaper. Led by Delhi MLA and Janata Dal (S) leader Shoaib Iqbal, the march began from Masjid Ferozeshah Kotla and culminated at Denmark's Embassy.
