BANGALORE: A labourer was injured and 40 huts were destroyed in a fire that broke out on Bannerghatta Road in MICO Layout on Thursday night. The police said the fire broke out in N.S. Palya after Manjunath Nayak (40) allegedly threw a bidi stub. The fire that broke out at Nayak's hut spread to the adjoining dwellings. Nayak, a construction worker from Gulbarga, suffered burns. Three fire tenders rushed to the spot and put out the fire, they said. Most of the residents there are construction workers hailing from Gulbarga district, the police said.
Suicide
Three persons, including a trainee officer of the Indian Air Force, committed suicide in as many incidents on Thursday. The police said Rajavardhan Kuteer (22), a trainee at IAF, jumped from his fourth floor quarters in the IAF Colony in Jalahalli and died. He was a native of Faisalabad in Uttar Pradesh. The Gangammanagudi police have registered a case. In another incident, Srikanth (35), a second division assistant at the CBI office, hanged himself to death at his house in Kammagondanahalli in Gangammanagudi police station limits, the police said. An unemployed youth, Habeeb (22) hanged himself to death at his house in 6th Cross, Vinayakanagar, in Jagjivan Ram Nagar police station limits. He took the step after his parents admonished him, the police said.
