Special Correspondent

  • Funds will be provided for anti-poverty programmes, says Yediyurappa
  • Government to ensure that development schemes reach farmers and the poor

BANGALORE: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has said the Government will work towards reaching development programmes to farmers and the poor.

Addressing a gathering after paying floral tributes to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya on his 39th death anniversary at Canara Union Hall in Malleswaram here, Mr. Yediyurappa said the State Budget for 2006-07 will allocate adequate funds for the implementation of anti-poverty programmes. Redressing the grievances of the people, particularly of rural people, is the priority of the Government.

The Government will correct the mistakes of the Dharam Singh Government and fine-tune policies to bring about a real change in the lives of the poor, he said.

Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya became President of the Jan Sangh in 1967 and worked towards uplifting the poor in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan. He fought the Government headed by the late Indira Gandhi and formed an anti-Congress alliance, Mr. Yediyurappa said.

Responding to a question on Siemens deciding against further expansion of its facilities in Bangalore, he said the Government will hold a meeting with industrialists and investors soon to redress all their grievances.

Bharatiya Janata Party national General Secretary H.N. Ananth Kumar, MP, said the BJP-JD(S) alliance will complete its 40-month tenure and respond to the grievances of all sections of society.
