THE PROMOS show a film that looks like a Hollywoodised Bunty aur Bubbly, which is a novelty since we have Indianised versions of gazillion Hollywood flicks! The film, a remake of a 1977 movie of the same name starring Jane Fonda and George Segal, tells the tale of an affluent suburban couple who lose everything when the big evil corporate goes bust - Enron anyone? The couple lose everything and then decide to steal everything back - that is the B Aur B or the Bonnie And Clyde angle. The evil ruthless CEO is made to pay for his sins and all is right in the end. Fans of rubber face Jim Carrey have enough to cheer, including his stand up act atop a table at a prim and propah club. Alec Baldwin is simply mind-blowing as oily head honcho Jack McAllister. Tea Leoni as Jim Carrey's wife holds up her own, which is quite a job when you are working opposite a show stealer like Carrey.

The film is unsure how it wants to play out and that proves its undoing. People being driven to thieving and drinking is pretty serious business. So it should have been played as a straightforward drama or considering the comic talent on hand as a vicious biting satire. And if you want to play with the Unities, you should be a certain Shakespeare or someone like that, which Parisot is most definitely not.
