Project will create thousands of jobs: Rajasekhara Reddy

VISAKHAPATNAM: Unperturbed by Karnataka's attempts to woo Fab City project from Andhra Pradesh to the neighbouring State, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Saturday said he was confident of the project coming up near Hyderabad.

In a brief chat with reporters at the port stadium, he said the $ 3 billion project for manufacturing semi-conductors/micro processor chips for computers, television sets, mobile phones and other digital devices would create job opportunities for thousands of people.

No doubts

Asked to comment on the statement of Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy that he would try to convince SemIndia — promoters of the project — to locate Fab City in their State by offering more concessions, Dr. Reddy shot back, "Why do you want to have doubts regarding the project?"

At a joint press conference in Hyderabad, Dr. Reddy and president and CEO of SemIndia Vinod K. Aggarwal had announced the setting up of the `biggest single investment for decades in the hardware sector' near Shamshabad on Thursday.

The Chief Minister said they had agreed to allot 1,200 acres near the international airport, supply 50 million gallons of water a day and power at a concessional tariff of Rs. 2.25 per unit through a dedicated 600 MW project.

Irrigation projects

Stating that the State was marching ahead towards progress after Congress bounced back to power, he said the people should not go by the `misinformation campaign' launched by the Opposition against Polavaram and other irrigation projects.

On the outcome of Visakha-I elections, he said the party candidate, Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, would win the February 19 by-polls hands down.

Earlier a rousing reception was accorded to Dr. Reddy when he arrived by helicopter along with Union Minister of State for Mines T. Subbarami Reddy and Minister for Commercial Taxes Konathala Ramakrishna, at the port stadium helipad.

A host of dignitaries including Director-General of Police Swarnajit Sen, Commissioner of Police V.S.K. Kaumudi, District Collector Anil Singhal, Rural SP V.V. Srinivasa Rao, and Congress MLAs S. Rangaraju, K. Sitaramu, G. Babji, and K. Ravibabu were present.
