Bidar: Members of Tippu Sultan Youth Club took out a protest rally at Chitaguppa in Humnabad taluk on Friday against the publication of cartoons of Prophet Mohammed in certain European newspapers. Around 2,000 of them walked from Sardar Chowk to the office of the Special Tahshildar, shouting slogans against the cartoonist and the newspapers that published the cartoon.
Burnt in effigy
They alleged that European newspapers were trying to provoke the Muslim community. They carried out a mock public hanging of the cartoonist and burnt him in effigy. The protesters submitted a memorandum to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam through the Tahsildar, demanding that India condemn the act of publishing of the cartoons. They urged the Centre to ensure that no Indian publication carries the cartoons. Moulana Tasadduq Hussein Nadvy, club president, and Sajid Pasha, former Town Municipal Council president Moosa Mian were present.
