DUBAI: The ailing Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, has undergone an abdominal surgery after a scan showed that his digestive tract had been severely damaged. In a four-hour operation the seventh which the Prime Minister has undergone in the last five weeks parts of Mr. Sharon's intestine have been removed. He has been shifted to the general intensive care unit after the surgery. A spokeswoman at the Hadassah University Hospital where Mr. Sharon has been admitted had earlier said that his life was in danger. The surgery was performed to clear blood flow into his intestines. Mr. Sharon has been in coma since he suffered a massive cerebral haemorrhage on January 4. Mr. Sharon's sons Omri and Gilad were at the hospital in the morning, as were the members of his staff.
