PUDUKOTTAI: A chance to meet people from the tinsel town would be a memory to cherish for college students.

Students of the Visual Communication Department of J.J College of Arts and Science had an interesting experience when they got an opportunity to interact with music director Deva on the current trends in the music industry here on Friday.

The veteran music director also inaugurated the post-production centre in the department, which encompasses a sound recording theatre and a non-linear video editing machine.

Though he is popular among youth for his peppy numbers, the students wanted to know from him why melodies have become a rarity these days.

"Melodious songs are composed even today. But the problem is they lose significance when fast numbers in the same film prove to be an instant hit among the youths. We act in accordance with the trend and the film directors also insist on such songs," he answered.

With the availability of various plug-ins like reverberation, protools, sound scapes, the pace of the songs is further enhanced to attract the young audience, he said.

Deva pointed out the visual presentation of the song also plays an important part in its success and added directors are always keen in making the song sequence and dance movement cohere with the music.

Principal of the college, J. Parasuram said the idea behind such interactive session is to make students learn and clear their doubts from the people who have made a mark for themselves in the field. Secretary of the college, N. Subramanian was also present on the occasion.
