Show cause notice to Ramamurthy

Staff Reporter

Performance of Central Ministers from Tamil Nadu laudable: Moily

TIRUCHI: A show cause notice has been issued to the former president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC), Tindivanam K. Ramamurthy, for his anti-party activities, Congress Working Committee member in-charge of Tamil Nadu, Veerappa Moily has said.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, he said Mr. Ramamurthy should know that his recent remarks were not in the larger interest of the party. "He seems to be more loyal to the AIADMK and has some problems to be within a system," he said, adding that Mr. Ramamurthy should desist from such anti-party campaigns.

On the series of sops announced by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for various sections, Mr. Moily said they would not hold water, as the people were aware that they were done with an eye on the election.

Adequate assistance

Mr. Moily said the people of Tamil Nadu were "grateful" to the Congress-led Government at the Centre, which had a large number of Ministers in key portfolios, including Finance, Panchayat Raj and Railways. The performance of the Ministers was also laudable. The latest induction of G. K. Vasan with independent charge indicated the importance of the State.

Mr. Moily said Ms. Jayalalithaa could not cover up the fact that the Centre had provided adequate financial assistance to Tamil Nadu after the tsunami and the floods. The Centre released Rs. 6,000 crore for tsunami relief and reconstruction and another Rs. 1,000 crore towards flood relief, he said.

On the forthcoming Assembly elections, he said the Democratic Progressive Alliance was intact and expressed confidence that it would be voted to power. "Our alliance, led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, is strong. We have to work with mutual trust and understanding. But the rival camp has no partners," he said.

Replying to a query on seat sharing, Mr. Moily hoped that all alliance partners, including the Congress, would get respectable allocations so that no party felt being let down. The electoral history of the State clearly indicated that the winning combination had always had Congress as one of the constituents, he said.
