Shooting
New Delhi: Indian shooters were on a medal-winning spree with four gold medals and one silver on the second day of the Australian Cup championships at Melbourne on Saturday. Samaresh Jung claimed the top honours in men's air pistol event by firing 582 in the qualifying and 100.4 in the final round. The silver also went to India's Vivek Singh, who shot 678.9 (579+99.9). Harveen Srao took the top spot with her performance of 485.7 (389+96.7) in the women's air pistol event at the venue where Commonwealth Games are slated for next month.
Pemba, Joydeep excel
Pemba Tamang's effort of 575 followed by 192.7 in the men's fire pistol was enough for the top place finish, while Joydeep Karmakar (581+103.1) won the men's rifle prone event. The Indian shooters, who have been practising in Melbourne for the past 10 days, now tally six gold, three silver and one bronze in the competition in which they are participating in preparation of the Games beginning on March 15.
