Perth: Likened to Justin Leonard by his childhood hero Fred Couples, an inspired Shiv Kapur fired a five-under 67 to shoot up to the tied 17th place at 10-under 206 after the penultimate round in the 2.3 million dollar Johnnie Walker Classic here on Saturday. American Kevin Stadler soared into a two-shot third round lead after firing a six-under 66 that took his three-day tally to 17-under 199 at the Vines Resort and Country Club. Korea's K.J. Choi, the overnight leader, slipped to joint second place after a mixed bag of 70. Shiv birdied his closing three holes and will enter the final round seven shots off the lead and in sight of a good payday.
Atwal slips to tied 52
Meanwhile, Arjun Atwal's Poppy Hills sojourn turned out to be a forgettable one with three bogeys in each nine as the Indian carded an average one-over 73 to slip to the tied 52nd place after second round in the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Meanwhile, Canadian southpaw Mike Weir birdied his last three holes for a three-shot lead after a five-under 67 at the same course in cold and foggy conditions.
