BANGALORE: Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly N. Dharam Singh on Saturday assured the Government that the Congress will extend cooperation to its efforts to persuade SemIndia to implement its Fab City project in Bangalore and prevail upon Siemens Ltd. to continue its expansion programme in the State. Addressing presspersons after attending a programme organised by the Karnataka Pradesh Mahila Congress here, Mr. Dharam Singh said the previous government, headed by him, had pressured SemIndia to establish the Fab City project near Nanjangud. Recent political developments seem to have affected its implementation, he added. Mr. Dharam Singh said he had asked Lakshmi Venkatachalam, Principal Secretary, Department of Industries, to hold discussions with Siemens Ltd. to assure the company that infrastructure in Bangalore will be improved. However, he could not pursue the matter because of political developments. The Congress will support measures initiated by the new government to bring Fab City project to the State and persuade Siemens Ltd. to continue its expansion programme. It is ready to pressure the Centre in this regard, he added. On the notice issued to Congress MLAs seeking an explanation for their absence when the motion of confidence tabled by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy was put to vote on February 8, Mr. Dharam Singh said they might have been unaware of his (Mr. Dharam Singh's) plan to insist on a division.
