EC directives will be strictly followed: poll official

Kolkata: A day after the Election Commission made critical observations about the West Bengal government's unsatisfactory electoral roll revision, the State unit chief of the poll watchdog said the EC's directives would be strictly followed to verify the voters' lists before final publication on February 22.

Chief Electoral Officer Debasish Sen said that he had initiated discussions with district magistrates to ensure that the revision exercise was completed to the satisfaction of the Election Commission before February 22. He told reporters that the district election departments had been asked to step up the revision exercise and also put more stress on urban areas.

``We are holding talks with the district magistrates,'' he said. — PTI
