Calculated move

The publication of the cartoons against Prophet Muhammed is a calculated attempt to drive Muslims towards resorting to violence so that they can be dubbed "terrorists" and alienated in world society.
K. Malikul Azeez,
Chennai

It is good that U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan has condemned the recent violent acts that followed the publication of the cartoons and has called for a renewed dialogue among different faiths. There are doors to be opened and each of us can contribute something to this process.

A.J. Rangarajan,
Chennai

Believers must take care to ensure that they are "followers" and not "defenders" of god and must learn that nothing can really harm the omnipotent god. At the same time, it is the duty of responsible governments to prevent such occurrences.

Mathew Koshy,
Tiruvalla, Kerala

This refers to the letter (Feb.11) stating that the media should have the right to criticise religious myths without fearing fanatics. I beg to disagree. Freedom of expression is indeed of important, but no one has the right to offend any faith. The publication of the cartoons is an insult not just to the `fanatics' but also to ordinary devout Muslims.

Aparna P. Ramachandran,
New Delhi

It is not shocking to note that Islamophobia is the root cause for the publication of the provocative cartoons. All well-meaning citizens must realise that mere advances in science and technology cannot bind mankind together. Spiritualism alone can save our planet from imminent destruction.

B.R. Kumar,
Chennai

This refers to the letter by two Danish men, presently travelling in India, on the cartoon episode. (Feb. 11). Their observations and feelings present the true picture of a majority of the people.

C. Mohammed Saleha,
Chennai

Cartoons are meant to bait someone. Besides the intended targets, it now appears that everyone has risen to the bait in one way or the other.

Titus John,
Tiruvalla, Kerala
