Missing person traced; tension eases in village

Staff Reporter

Cases registered against 31 villagers

ERODE: Tension in Srirangampalayam has been eased as the missing person was traced.

Vehicle found

According to the police, Radhamani, wife of Devarajan of Srirangampalayam near here, complained to the villagers that her husband was missing and his moped was found near the house of Thangamuthu. The villagers, armed with weapons, entered Thangamuthu's house and beat him up.

They assaulted Thangamuthu's relatives, Shanmugasundaram, Eswaramurthy and Nallasamy, before the police could intervene. The villagers complained that Thangamuthu might have murdered Devaraj and threw the body in a well.

False case

Meanwhile the Police traced Devaraj in a farm shed near Velliampalayam. During inquiries Devaraj admitted that he and his friend Murthy were trying to create a bad name for Thangamuthu and enacted the drama.

The police arrested Devaraj and Murthy and registered cases against them.

Cases were registered against 31 villagers of Srirangamapalayam for assaulting Thangamuthu and three others.
