FOR THE PEOPLE: Leaders of the CPI(M) arrive at Gudur during their padayatra in Kurnool district on Sunday.
KURNOOL: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) team led by MLA M.A. Gafoor completed 675 km covering 225 villages and reached Gudur in Kurnool district on Sunday. The padayatra by the teams led by Mr. Gafoor and party secretary T. Shadrak would conclude on February 19 after covering 1600 km and one third of the total villages in the district. Mr. Gafoor said the exercise was more educative to them than they educating the public. The team received over 10,000 representations and interacted with 60,000 people. He said crop damage, drinking water problem and death of sheep on a large scale this year were common problems the team encountered everywhere.
Water problem
Mr. Gafoor said lack of water supply at the tailend areas of Tungabhadra Low Level Canal (LLC) were serious burning issues in some villages. Diversion of water to non-ayacut areas was the reason for the problem. Despite developing knee pain due to the marathon walk party leader Ratnamma and Mr. Gafoor continued their journey taking short breaks. Mr. Gafoor promised all his support for establishing a degree college at Gudur following a representation made to him.
