Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) will conduct a public trial on the University College campus on Monday against the alleged anti-people policies pursued by the United Democratic Front Government since assuming power in 2001.

This was announced at a press conference convened jointly by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader M. Vijayakumar and DYFI State secretary A. Pradeep Kumar here on Sunday.

The two-and-a-half-hour trial, scheduled from 4.30 p.m., will see people from various walks of life from across the State airing their grievances before a panel of eminent persons, including jurists, freedom fighters, cultural activists, medical practitioners and social workers.

The petitioners will include victims of police brutalities, natural calamities, people deprived of education and medical facilities, victims of communal riots, workers rendered jobless by closure of industries, tribal people and family members of farmers who had committed suicide.

The grievances will be heard by a panel comprising V.R. Krishna Iyer, O.N.V. Kurup, D. Sridevi, P. Govinda Pillai, V.K. Sriraman, P.K.R. Warrier, R.V.G. Menon, N.A. Karim, K.V. Paulose, Joe Paul Ancheri, P.K. Kalan and K.E. Mammen.

Based on information collected from the petitioners, a charge-sheet would be prepared by the panel.

The trial will be telecast live on television and arrangements will be made to beam the programme to the public.
