CHENNAI: Standard Chartered Bank has donated $115,000 to CARE India to help set up a `Livelihood Advancement Centre' in Cuddalore as part of tsunami rehabilitation programmes. The cheque was handed over by Bank's group head Sreeram Iyer to Daniel Sinnathamby of CARE India on January 31. The project will involve the community to identify opportunities in adding value in fishing, agriculture and other activities. By 2004 end, the SC group had committed $1 million to India. The funds, according to a release, are being used for helping villages along the Chennai coast with immediate and long-term rehabilitation. Scope International, the bank's subsidiary, headed the relief and rehabilitation initiatives in Tamil Nadu.
