Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Purasawakkam, Ambattur TI Cycles SS, Madipakkam, Vyasarpadi, Santhome, Muthialpet, Periamet, Alwarpet, Foreshore Estate, Avadi, Padi, Pulianthope, Kondithope, Nungambakkam, Sowcarpet East and West, College Road, Thousand Lights, Gopalapuram, Vepery, Mandaveli and Mylapore West areas on February 14, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work. Supply will be resumed before 5 p.m. if the work is completed.

Blood donation

A blood donation camp was conducted by the Blood Bank of Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch on February 7 at the Tata AIG Life Insurance, 177, Raheja Towers, 9th floor, Anna Salai. The camp was organised by Ar. Ragupathy, Tata AIG Life Insurance.

NSS camp

The National Service Scheme volunteers of Madha Engineering College participated in an annual camp on `Youth for Water Resources Development. S. Peter, chairman of the Madha group of institutions, S. Innasi, secretary of the College and R. Venkatasamy, principal participated. The camp aimed at creating awareness on prevention of AIDS, Cholera and other contagious diseases.

Free eye

screening camp

The Public Health Centre, in West Mambalam conducted a free eye camp at the Vishranthi Illam Home for the Aged and Destitute Women.

A team of ophthalmologists and optometrics with para-medical staff of the centre conducted the camp. One hundred and twenty three persons, including a 106-year-old woman, were examined. Seventy were recommended for free glasses.

Twenty two were referred for further screening and tests for surgeries at the centre.

College students participate in debate

Students of the Dhanraj Baid Jain College participated in a debate organised by the Computer Science department.

The best team prize went to the II year MCA.

In a group discussion contest the first prize went to a four-member team from the I year and II year MCA.
