CHENNAI: The city police have given Internet browsing centre owners time till February 28 to submit applications and get a licence for their establishments under the Tamil Nadu City Police Act (1888). Shutters had come down on a number of browsing centres after many failed to respond to the police notification asking them to procure licence after complying with a long list of rules laid out in The Browsing Centre (Tamilnadu) Rules/Conditions of the City Police Act. The police issued the notification after an email threatening to blow up Parliament was traced to an Internet café in Tirunelveli last year. Other than the identity of browsers, the police have also asked the owners of browsing centres to maintain log registers of browsers keep backup of logs and Internet records for at least six months.
