A record in hernia surgery

CHENNAI: Here's a doctor who has set a record of sorts by performing 50 hernia surgeries in 24 hours.

J.S. Rajkumar and his team of assistants performed the surgeries at Lifeline Multi Speciality Hospital in Perungudi. The surgeon began his feat at 10 p.m. on Saturday and completed it at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Thirty of the surgeries were done free of cost. Dr. Rajkumar, chairman of the hospital, said: "This initiative is targeted at the less fortunate who require medical expertise. Most of the surgeries are being performed free of cost or at subsidised rates. This has also given the hospital confidence in handling such a large exercise if such a requirement presents itself."

Dr. Rajkumar is aiming to get his achievement into the Guinness Book of Records.
