State to go easy on income eligibility

People urged to make use of DPL centres

  • Variation of Rs. 1,000 or a little more is allowed, says Collector
  • Families with Government job not eligible for white card, says official

HYDERABAD: District Collector of Hyderabad Arvind Kumar has said that the administration is going to be liberal in deciding income eligibility for issuing white ration cards in the ongoing exercise at designated photography locations (DPLs) in the city.

The Government had fixed Rs. 24,000 annual income for those eligible for white cards but the administration would not `argue' with any householder if there was a variation of Rs. 1,000 and a little more, he clarified.

    Collector optimistic

Due to technical glitches, there was a delay in opening 30 more DPL centres which, he hoped, would be overcome within a few days. He appealed to people who have received notices to reach designated centres for obtaining laminated ration cards. The Collector was talking to presspersons at Bapughat DPL centre in the Karwan constituency on Sunday.

Tourism Minister J. Geetha Reddy and overseeing programme implementation visited three such centres with other two at Khilwat community hall in the Charminar constituency and Zakir Hussain community hall in Asifnagar.

She said each and every householder would be supplied with a ration card — white or pink — depending on income levels. Such a card would also double up as identity card.

    Validity for 5 years

New cards would be valid for the next five years, she said. She said people living in all the slums would be covered but white ration cards' eligibility would be decided after a screening process.

Chief Rationing Officer Vani Prasad said families with a Government job would not be eligible for a white card. The last date has been extended up to March 15 at 100 DPL centres while it will be April 15 in areas where new DPL centres are set up.
