THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fifty years of Kerala's development will be the central theme of a three-day international meet being organised by the Department of Economics, University of Kerala. A thesis on Kerala's development prepared by experts in the department will be presented at the meet to be inaugurated by the Minister for Education E.T. Mohammed Basheer on February 15. Vice-chairman of the State Planning Board C.V. Padmarajan will deliver a special address during the inaugural session. About 130 research papers on the structure of Kerala's economy, agriculture, industry, banking, trade, health, population and emigration, environment and tourism, decentralised planning finance, women and development and on poverty and unemployment, will be presented. A press release issued here on Monday said the meet aims to produce a blueprint for Kerala's development. The sessions will be held at the Senate Hall, the Senate Chamber and the Institute of Management in Kerala (IMK). On February 17, Revenue Minister K.M. Mani will deliver the keynote address at the plenary session. The former demographer for the World Bank K.C. Scaria, planning board member G. Mohan Gopal and MLA Thomas Isaac will be among those who will speak on the last day of the meet, the press release added.
