This Day That Age
The expert committee, set up by the US President in 1952 to study rain-making and weather modification, has reported that rainfall could be substantially increased through cloud-seeding. The study of cloud-seeding operation on the Pacific Coast, where it is being conducted almost on a permanent basis, has shown that it has increased water precipitation from nine to 17 per cent. Capt. Orville, Chairman of the expert committee, is optimistic that amazing results can come out of more research and improved techniques. At present cloud-seeding is done by releasing into the atmosphere dry ice or silver iodide particles.
