Letters to the Editor
The report that the Government has conducted a survey on the basis of religion among army personnel is disturbing. It is a very dangerous move.
N.C. Ramasubbu,
The Congress-led Government is taking a dangerous step. Had the NDA regime conducted a similar survey, the entire media would have called the exercise communal. Seeking information about Muslims in the Army is a retrograde step that should be undone right away.
The very thought of religious identity among Indian armed forces is sickening. Only the most irresponsible can come up with ideas like setting up a panel on minority welfare in the Armed Forces. As the hapless citizens watch with horror, it becomes the duty of the media to exert decisive pressure against such retrograde steps.
K.S. Ramakrishnan,
