Tiruvarur : A sum of Rs. 56.32 crore has been allotted by the State Government for paying compensation to farmers, whose crops were affected in floods in Tiruvarur district according to P. Ekambaram, Collector. Distribution of relief has already started from February 10 in the district, he said, adding that the amount would be distributed to 1,41,768 farmers at the rate of Rs. 3000 per acre. In Tiruvarur taluk 7874 farmers will receive the amount, in Kodavasal taluk 14,141 farmers, in Nannilam 20894 farmers, in Valangaiman 15531 farmers, in Mannargudi taluk 36077 farmers, in Thiruthuraipoondi 26608 farmers and in Needamangalam 20643 farmers. The amount would be deposited in the accounts of farmers in Primary Agriculture Co-operative Banks. The Collector clarified that no arrears would be deducted from the amount and the farmers could get the entire amount.
