CHENNAI: The Electronic Science Department of Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College in Teynampet conducted a State-level technical meet called Electro Blitz 06 for Women on Saturday. The meet was held as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the college and the SIET Trust. Some 150 students from various colleges across the State participated in the programme inaugurated by Prabhat Kumar, project director of the Atomic Energy Centre, Kalpakkam. Eleven teams presented papers that were judged by V. Vijayendran, Department of Physics, Pachaiyappas College. Students of Kumararani Meena Muthiah (KRMMC) College and Ethiraj College, Chennai, won the first and second places for their paper on opto-electronics. T.S. Venkatesan, assistant executive engineer of Ennore Power Station, was the judge for the project presentation in which 20 colleges participated. A project on E-card systems for electricity billing by students of G. Venkataswamy Naidu College of Kovilpatti won the first place. The second prize went to a project on solar tracking by students of Mohammed Sathak College.
