CHENNAI: The University of Madras will hold a career fair for students of all affiliated colleges on February 18 and 19. This is the first time the varsity is organising a fair that is open to students across all disciplines. The objective is to facilitate interaction among all affiliated college students and pharmaceutical, insurance, travel, sales and marketing, banking, chemical companies, BPO and IT/IteS, Vice-Chancellor S.P.Thyagarajan told reporters here on Tuesday. The fair is being organised by Riddhi Consulting, a firm manned by alumni of the University's Department of Management Studies. The fair would provide a platform for students to enhance their competitiveness by understanding the manpower requirements of employers.
Over 40 companies
Over 40 companies including HCL, ABL Biotech, Allsec Technologies and Global Realty Outsourcing have consented to participate. Seminars on job opportunities and an aptitude test would be held. The university would generate a master database on all students, which will be maintained by its Students Advisory Bureau to be accessed by prospective employers. The fair would be held at the Centenary Auditorium. It would be a regular feature every six months. Entry is free for all students. While the University Industry Community Interaction Centre had a good placement record, the management studies department scored a 100 percent record in placements last year, the Vice-Chancellor said.
