Verification of applications

TIRUCHI : The Corporation Commissioner, Harmander Singh, on Monday conducted personal verification of applications received for revision of poll rolls for the Assembly constituencies of Tiruchi 1 and Tiruchi II.

The draft electoral rolls were displayed at the polling stations, post offices etc, where forms for inclusion and deletion of names, change in address were distributed. The deadline expired on Sunday.

A Corporation release issued here on Monday said that a total of 5,008 applications were received for the inclusion of names in both the constituencies, while 134 applications were received for the deletion of names and 469 applications for the change in address in the same constituency.

Another 376 applications were received for making correction in the names and other details.

Mr. Singh, accompanied by officials, personally verified the applications with the details furnished by the applicants of Thennur Pattabiraman Pillai Street, Raja Colony, Periamilaguparai Adidravida Street etc.

Laksharshanai

`Eka Dina Laksharshanai' will be performed at the Rockfort Sri Thayumanaswamy Temple on the occasion of `Sivarathri' festival on February 26.

Devotees willing to participate in the `Laksharshanai' could contact temple authorities, a release from the Executive Officer, P. Jayaraman, issued here on Monday said.

TNEB warning

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has said that receipts for any electricity distribution services such as fresh connections, change of electricity meters, name transfer etc., were being given only at electricity board offices after obtaining due payment for them.

A release from the TNEB here said the it had not authorised any individual to collect money from consumers including domestic and commercial establishments.

The release has advised the public not to give money connected with electricity services to any stranger or unauthorised person. Identity cards have been provided to all staff. Public have been advised to check identity cards for any power-related services. — Staff Reporter.
