Dharna staged

Thiruvananthapuram: Workers of the Kerala Swathanthra Malsya Thozhilali Union and the Kerala Pradesh Malsya Thozhilali Congress staged a dharna before the Secretariat on Monday in protest against the alleged Government neglect of the fisheries sector. Union State president P.V. Pavithran inaugurated the dharna. — Staff Reporter

Awards to be presented

Thiruvananthapuram: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adoor Prakash will distribute the M.K. Reghupathi awards for academic excellence for the children of FCI employees at the Vyloppilly Samskruthi Bhavan on Tuesday evening. The awards were instituted by the Bharatiya Khadya Nigam Karamchari Sangh. Pirappancode Murali, MLA, will deliver the keynote address. Sangh national president V.M. Damodaran will preside.

Police station march

Thiruvananthapuram: The criminal elements within the police are having a field day, AIYF State president P.S. Supal has said. Inaugurating the police station march organised by the federation in protest against the custodial death of a youth Satyan on February 9, Mr. Supal said that the Government should give a compensation of Rs.15 lakhs to Satyan's family, give employment to a family member and initiate disciplinary action against the policemen responsible for the incident. — Staff Reporter

Mass protest today

Thiruvananthapuram: The CMFRI-Aquarium Campaign Committee formed to retain the Vizhinjam Aqaurium and Research Centre will organise a mass protest before the Secretariat on Tuesday, campaign coordinator P.V. Anil Kumar said in a release on Monday. — Staff Reporter

Disciplinary action sought

Thiruvananthapuram: The All Kerala Private College Teachers' Association has demanded that the Government initiate disciplinary action against N. Suresh, former principal of Sri Ayyappa College, Eramallikara, who was suspended from service for alleged misconduct.

The statement said there were moves to repeal the disciplinary action against the former principal.
