After mesmerising millions with his magical voice, the renowned singer K.J. Jesudas is donning a new role in his illustrious career in Malayalam film industry. For the first time, he will pen a story for a movie. Titled Koormam, the film will be directed by K.R. Ramdas. Jesudas will also render music for the flick. "The movie will be seen through the eyes of King Mahabali. It will be a collection of several thoughts and dreams that I have about Kerala," he told a small gathering that assembled near Thrikkakara temple on Tuesday morning. Announcing the launch of the movie, Jesudas said that the film would look at the current political, social and cultural scenario in the State. "The story will connect a lot of incidents happening in Kerala. We have several dreams about how our State should function. We have grown up hearing the story of King Mahabali who is believed to have ruled Malayalis from his prosperous empire. History books say that Mahabali's rule was marked by unity among the people. His empire was also free of any social ills," he said. Koormam, Jesudas says, will be an attempt to portray Mahabali in a different way. "It will be entirely different from how Mahabali is shown in parody songs and visuals. He had been portrayed in an indecent manner in these programmes, " he said. Referring to the social content of the movie, Yesudas said conditions of people might have improved if the present rulers had implemented at least five per cent of what Mahabali did during his rule. "I hope that actors in the industry will come forward to cooperate with the venture. The returns from the film will be handed over to voluntary organisations in the State." Produced under the banner of Koral Combines, Koormam will be shot in Ernakulam, Palakkad and Tamil Nadu. The script is by Kannan Perumadiyoor. Ramdas, who made movies like Varum-Varunnu-Vannu and Hai, said he was happy to associate with a great singer in the making of the movie.
