Over 45,000 applications received for inclusion in electoral rolls

SALEM: The district administration has received a total of 45,680 application forms for inclusion of names in the electoral rolls from the 11 assembly constituencies in the district during the intensive and summary roll revision process from January 27 to February 12.

According to a release from the district administration, in the last day alone, a total of 25,959 people applied for inclusion. The administration also received 1,317 applications for deletion, 1,214 for corrections in the electoral rolls and 2,011 for change of address within a constituency.

Of the 45,680 applications for inclusion, 8,496 were received from the Mettur assembly constituency, 7,609 from Attur; 5,505 from Omalur; 4,870 from Edaipadi; 4,798 from Taramangalam; 3,918 from Talaivasal; 2,849 from Yercaud; 2,351 from Salem - II; 2,026 from Veerapandi; 1,937 from Salem - I and 1,321 from Panamarathupatti.

Identity cards

Officials will conduct a door-to-door inspection to verify the claims for inclusion. The final draft rolls will be released on February 27.

The photographing of voters, who have yet to take a photograph for the Electors' Photo Identity Card (EPIC), will begin here on February 15, the release says.
