The credit for the smooth conduct of the Malabar Mahotsavam this year, to a great extent, goes to the organisers. The festival, which has graduated to its tenth edition, was probably the one conducted at the shortest notice so far. Yet, the entire arrangements were completed with least fanfare. There were hardly any hitches. No cancellation of programmes, because of artists failing to turn up and the like. While the festival venues had earlier witnessed the presence of greats in the Indian film, music and dance fields, this was the first time that an artist from outside the country, ghazal maestro Gulam Ali from Pakistan, staged a performance at the main venue. A suggestion mooted is to spread the festival to the entire region, instead of confining it to Kozhikode.
