Murray batters Fish

SAN JOSE: Britain's Andrew Murray eased into the second round of the SAP Open with an emphatic 6-2, 6-2 victory over American wild card Mardy Fish, hours after Andre Agassi had withdrawn from the event with a back injury.

Second-seeded Agassi was replaced by lucky loser Travis Rettenmaier of the U.S. who beat compatriot Scoville Jenkins 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

Coria survives scare

No. 2 seed Guillermo Coria rallied from two breaks down in the final set to beat Czech Jiri Vanek 6-1, 2-6, 7-6(2), surviving an opening-round scare at the $425,000 Copa Telmex in Buenos Aires.

Stepanek on fire

Meanwhile, seventh-seeded Radek Stepanek fired 12 aces before overcoming Czech countryman Tomas Berdych 7-5, 6-4 in the first round of the Open 13 in Marseille on Monday.
